AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron freshman Nick Hinds (Plantation, Fla.) has been tabbed by College Soccer News to its National Men's Soccer Team of the Week it was announced on Monday, Nov. 14.
Hinds turned in a dominating week helping the Zips to a pair of victories en route to capturing their 13th Mid-American Conference Championship title and 31st NCAA Tournament berth with a 2-1 victory past Buffalo on Sunday, Nov. 13. He posted a team-high two goals on the week, while adding an assist on six shots.
In Akron's 4-0 semifinal triumph over Western Michigan on Friday, Nov. 11, he garnered his fourth assist of the season on redshirt sophomore Ezana Kahsay's (Asmeras, Eritrea) tally in the 60th minute.
He capped his weekend registering his first-ever multi-goal performance scoring a pair of goals on the strength of a career- and game-high five shots in a 2-1 victory over Buffalo.
He netted what proved to be the game-winning tally in the 32nd minute (31:09), off an assist from redshirt junior Sam Gainford (Liverpool, England).
He then gave the Zips a 2-0 advantage at the 52:32 mark connecting on his third goal of the season.
On the campaign, he owns three goals and four assists for 10 points on 24 shots, including seven on goal. He has played primarily on defense up until the start of the month helping the Zips to earn 10 shutouts this season.
Akron (12-5-3) returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 17, with an opening-round NCAA Tournament game. Draws for the 2016 NCAA Championship will be unveiled on Monday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. on NCAA.com.
