Record-Setting DMR Time Highlights Zips' Efforts on Day One of Penn State National

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University of Akron men's distance medley relay team's school-record setting performance highlighted the Zips' efforts on the opening day of the Penn State National on Friday, Jan. 29.
The quartet of juniors Dan Zupan (Berea, Ohio) and Miles Baldwin (Cincinnati, Ohio), sophomore Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) and junior Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio) ran a school-record time of 9:42.42 to place fifth in the distance medley relay invitational.
Sophomore Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) registered the fourth-best mark in program history winning the long jump with a leap of 24-11 (7.59m). Sophomore Jamir Coleman (Lima, Ohio) garnered a third-place showing with a jump of 24-2.50 (7.38m).
Improving upon her own No. 5 all-time mark in the Akron record book in the weight throw with mark of 59-8.50 (18.20m) was senior Megan Dornisch (St. Mary's, Pa.). Senior Alexis Cooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the event with a throw of 66-10 (20.37m), while Dornisch placed seventh.
In the 60-meter final, redshirt junior Hakeem Lawrence (Miami, Fla.) and redshirt freshman Kwadarrius Smith (Orlando, Fla.) registered times of 6.86 and 7.04 to finish fourth and eighth, respectively.
Junior Daniella Johnson (Gahanna, Ohio) finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19-0.50 (5.80m).
Placing fifth in the men's pole vault invitational with a clearance of 16-7.50 (5.07m) was sophomore Matt Rowland (Bellevue, Ohio).
The women's 400-meter final kicks off action at the Penn State National on Saturday, Jan. 30, with the meet concluding with the men's 4x400 relay at approximately 6 p.m.

FINALS:
5,000 Meters: Sarah Kupniewski (19th-18:07.35); Weight Throw: Alexis Cooks (1st-66-10/20.37m), Megan Dornisch (7th-59-8.50/18.20m); Long Jump: Daniella Johnson (4th-19-0.50/5.80m).
