Najem selected to participate in US Soccer Collegiate National Team Camp

AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron junior men's soccer player Adam Najem (Clifton, N.J.) has been selected by United State's Under-23 men's national team head coach Andi Herzog to attend a college identification training camp that will allow the coaching staff to evaluate collegiate players as the team continues preparations ahead of October qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The four-day camp will run Aug. 5-8 at the U.S. National Training Center in Carson, California.
A first-team All-Mid-American Conference honoree, Najem started all 21 games for Akron a season ago and led the Zips in goals (14), points (32), shots on goal (27) and game-winning tallies (4), while ranking second in assists (4) and shots (48).
He scored goals in 12 of the Zips' 21 games, including a three-goal explosion in a 5-0 win over Cleveland State.
He ranked fourth, fifth, eighth, eighth and 24th nationally in total goals, total points (32), goals per game (0.67), points per match (1.52) and game-winning goals (4), respectively.
Najem and the Zips will host Oakland (Aug. 18) and Bradley (Aug. 22) in a pair of 7 p.m. exhibition contests at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field before Akron opens its 61st intercollegiate campaign at VCU on Aug. 28.

The Zips will open their 2015 campaign traveling to VCU for a season-opening contest on Aug. 28 in Richmond, Va. Akron will battle Oakland and Bradley in exhibition action on Aug. 18 and Aug. 22, respectively, at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
