AKRON, Ohio - Former University of Akron men's soccer standouts have found success this season as more than 20 former Zips are currently playing professional soccer both in the United States and abroad.
MLS
Saad Abdul-Salaam – Sporting KC
Made his MLS debut with Sporting KC on May 20 playing one minute in a 4-2 victory over the New England Revolution...garnered 32 minutes of reserve action in a 0-0 draw at Seattle on May 23...registered first career shot in seven minutes of play in a 4-0 triumph past Dallas on May 29...began campaign on loan from Sporting KC and started all five matches in which appeared in for the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League.
Chad Barson – Columbus Crew
Has logged reserve minutes for the Crew at Vancouver and New England on April 8 and April 11, respectively.
Teal Bunbury – New England Revolution
Has appeared in 11 matches for the Revolution, including eight starts and owns three goals and an assist...has registered 12 shots, with five falling on net...ranks third on the squad in goals (3), fifth in shots on goal (5) and sixth in shots (12)...played all 90 minutes and scored third goal of the campaign on a season-best three shots in a 2-2 draw versus the Los Angeles Galaxy on May 30...registered one shot apiece against DC United (start-89 minutes) and Sporting KC (reserve-36 minutes) on May 23 and May 20, respectively...collected the game-winning goal and added an assist in 29 minutes of reserve duty in a 2-1 win at Philadelphia on April 19...netted game-winning goal on two shots in 90 minutes of play in a 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls on May 2.
Evan Bush – Montreal Impact
Started all seven matches in which he has appeared for Montreal...owns 33 saves and one shutout this season...posted a season-high eight saves in a 3-0 setback at Chicago on May 30...faced eight shots and made seven stops en route to collecting victory in a 2-1 win versus FC Dallas (May 23)...corralled four saves in a 4-1 victory over Real Salt Lake (May 16)...made four saves in a 0-0 draw versus New England (March 21)...made a then season-best seven stops in a 2-1 setback versus Portland (May 9)...named winner of the 2014/15 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League's Golden Glove award after appearing in nine of its 10 games, allowing one goal or fewer on six occasions...he is the first American to win an end-of-season SCCL honor.
Scott Caldwell – New England Revolution
Has started 13 of 14 matches for the Revolution this season owning two goals and a team-high four assists...has recorded seven shots, including three on goal...played all 90 minutes and registered a goal in a 4-2 setback at Sporting KC on May 20...tallied an assist in 90 minutes of action in a 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy on May 31...played all 90 minutes in 1-1 draws against Toronto and DC United on May 16 and May 23, respectively...netted goal, while adding an assist in a 4-0 triumph over Real Salt Lake on April 25...also added assists in a 2-1 win versus New York Red Bulls (May 2) and in a 2-2 draw against Orlando City SC (May 8).
Perry Kitchen – D.C. United
Has started 13 of the 14 matches he has appeared in for D.C. United and is third on team in goals (2), while adding an assist on four shots, including three on goal...has started four of the last five matches, playing all 90 minutes versus Orlando City (May 13), Philadelphia (May 17), New England (May 23) and Philadelphia (May 30)...garnered 30 minutes of reserve duty at Portland (May 27)...played all 90 minutes and registered two goals on three shots in a 2-2 draw versus the New York Red Bulls on April 11...collected assist in a 1-1 draw against Sporting KC on May 9.
Chris Korb – D.C. United
Has started eight of the nine matches in which he has appeared in for D.C. United...played all 90 minutes versus Sporting KC (May 9), Philadelphia (May 17) and Portland (May 27)...started and play 65 minutes in a 1-1 draw at New England (May 23)...came off the bench to provide 17 minutes of reserve duty in a 2-1 win over Philadelphia (May 30)...has posted one shot on the campaign...part of defensive effort that has resulted in four shutouts this season.
Darren Mattocks – Vancouver Whitecaps
Owns starts in five of the 12 matches he has appeared in...ranked second on the squad with three goals, while adding an assist...is rated fourth on the team in shots on goal (6) and fifth in shots (14)...has played in 29, 20 and four minutes of reserve duty versus Seattle (May 16), Colorado (May 23) and Real Salt Lake (May 30)...scored a goal and added an assist in a 2-2 draw versus Columbus on April 8...netted game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory past Real Salt Lake on April 18...came off the bench to score goal on four shots in a 3-0 triumph over Philadelphia on May 9.
Darlington Nagbe – Portland Timbers
Has started all 14 matches for the Timbers while registering two assists...ranks third on the team in shots (22), including five on net...has started and played all 90 minutes in three of the Timber's last five matches...recorded two shots apiece in contests versus Montreal (May 9), Toronto (May 23) and Colorado (May 30)...collected an assist in Portland's 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy on March 15...registered an assist in the Timbers' 3-1 triumph over FC Dallas on April 4.
Michael Nanchoff – Portland Timbers
Only appearance of the campaign came in the season opener versus Real Salt Lake on March 4 where he contributed four minutes in reserve duty...missed last two months after hernia surgery...is currently on loan with the Timbers 2 squad in the United States Soccer League where he has started all four matches in which he has appeared...owns two goals on six shots, including four on goal for the Timbers 2...registered two goals on a season-high five shots, including three on net in a 3-1 triumph at the Tulsa Roughnecks (May 30).
Kofi Sarkodie – Houston Dynamo
Has started all 10 matches he as appeared in for Houston contributing an assist...netted assist on game-winning goal in the Dynamo's 1-0 season-opening triumph versus Columbus on March 7.
Dillon Serna – Colorado Rapids
Has appeared in six matches for the Rapids this season, including earning the start in the season opener versus Philadelphia on March 7...was recently selected to the US Under-23 Men's National Team roster for the 2015 Toulon Tournament...came off the bench to net goal in a 4-0 victory at Dallas on April 10.
Wil Trapp – Columbus Crew
Has started all three matches in which he has appeared and has tallied one assist...collected an assist in the Crew's 2-0 win versus Toronto on March 14...has been out since April due to a concussion.
