Akron Women's Soccer Finishes Spring Exhibition Season Undefeated

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's soccer team, under the guidance of first-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, finished its spring exhibition play at 3-0-1.
In their final spring outings, the Zips shut out Tiffin University, 6-0, and Ursuline, 5-0.
Junior forward Sarah Sivic (Broadview Heights, Ohio) and sophomore forward Raechel Eck (Sterling Heights, Mich.) each scored two goals against Tiffin, while sophomore midfielder Amy Dean (Liberty Twp., Ohio) and junior midfielder Abby Gindlesberger (Canton, Ohio) had one apiece.
Sivic had two more goals against Ursuline. Senior forward Lani Smith (Solon, Ohio) scored twice, while Eck added the final tally.
Senior goalkeeper Klaire Adee (Rockford, Ill.) earned both shutouts.
"We are very pleased with how the spring season has progressed," Herlihy said. "Being that we are a new staff with new ideas, we wanted to hit the ground running. As such, we have put into place new ideas we believe can move this program forward in the right direction. The players have responded brilliantly in their attitude, willingness to learn, and application to the changes. While we all understand we still have lots of work to do, we could not have asked anything more from the players. Going undefeated this spring gives the players confidence in knowing they can achieve good things. Everyone is excited for the fall season, and the future of Zips' women's soccer."
Akron opens the 2015 season at home on Friday, August 21, against Bryant at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
Women's soccer season tickets are just $40 for general admission. Fans who have 2015 men's soccer season tickets can add a women's Family Plan for just $40 total. Discounted season tickets are available for current UA Faculty and Staff at $32. Single-game and group tickets will be available beginning in early August.
Season tickets can be purchased online at GoZips.com/tickets, by calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766), or at the C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
