AKRON, Ohio – The threat of rain throughout the day on Thursday and Friday has forced the University of Akron baseball team to postpone Friday's Mid-American Conference series opener against Ball State in Muncie, Ind. The teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 12 p.m. at Ball Diamond in the First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
Game two on Saturday will start approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The series finale between the Zips (12-14, 4-2 MAC) and the Cardinals (19-9, 5-1 MAC) will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. as originally scheduled.
Akron will send junior LHP John Valek III (3-2, 3.65 ERA) to the mound for game one on Saturday while junior RHP JT Brubaker (2-3, 2.55 ERA) is slated to make the start in game two. Redshirt senior RHP Jon Pusateri (3-2, 2.10 ERA) will throw Sunday's series finale.
