AKRON, Ohio - The Akron track and field program garnered recognition for the Zips' efforts this season as the squad earned a pair of top-20 national finishes in the final men's and women's collegiate indoor dual meet rankings of 2015, as compiled by Jesse Squire for Track and Field News.
Akron was the top-rated Mid-American Conference squad in the men's tabulations cultivating a No. 7 ranking, while the Zips' women's team received a No. 19 rating in the final dual meet rankings.
"The dual rankings mean so much to us because it measures how well rounded our team is," Akron head track and field coach Dennis Mitchell commented. "It also shows how well the MAC is at fielding competitive teams."
Akron currently has eight student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), including junior Shawn Barber (Kingwood, Texas) and senior Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain), who own the top marks nationally in the men's pole vault and women's high jump, respectively.
Akron returns to competition this Friday, Feb. 20, hosting the Zips Invitational at the Stile Athletics Field House.
