Women's Soccer Struggles in 4-0 loss to Western Michigan

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Akron women's soccer struggles against Western Michigan and falls 4-0 in Kalamazoo, Mich. Sunday afternoon.
"Just one of those games we did not play well at all and we just forget about now. We have to put it behind us and look to the next game," said Akron head coach Noreen Herlihy. "It is as simple as that."
On the afternoon, Akron (5-8-1, 2-4 MAC) registered four shots with three on net. Freshman Shea O'Brien (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) posted a team-high two shots, followed by sophomore Amy Dean (Liberty Township, Ohio) and freshman Erica Schrader (Blacklick, Ohio) recording one shot apiece. Junior keeper Annabelle Hegeman (Frostburg, Md.) made five saves in the contest.
In the 9' of the match, Gina Maddi gave the Broncos (7-3-3, 4-1-1 MAC) a 1-0 advantage on her goal off a corner kick,
O'Brien launched Akron's first shot of the match at the 17:42 mark of the first half but her shot was just high over the cross bar.
WMU scored again in the 19' on Maddi's second goal of the match. Alyssa Burke and Maddi combined on a give-and-go to claim the 2-0 lead.
The Bronco's keeper saved Shrader's lone shot of the contest in the 22'.
Dean attempted a shot to pull the zips within one in the 55', but her shot was saved.
At the 70:34 mark of the second half, O'Brien's second opportunity to score was again saved by the keeper.
In the final 10 minutes of the match, WMU scored two more times to put the game out of reach for the Zips.
Akron is back in action next weekend as they return to First EnergyStadium – Cub Cadet Field on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. for senior night.
