September 26 | Women's Soccer
ATHENS, Ohio - In their conference schedule opener at Chessa Field on Friday, the University of Akron women's soccer team fell to Ohio, 3-1.
Following an own goal that put the Bobcats on the board first in the 6th minute, the Zips fired back, as senior Lani Smith scored her second goal of the year in the 14th minute off of an assist from junior Hannah Werth.
Less than two minutes later, Ohio broke the tie as Annie Beard nailed a goal off of a corner kick, her second of the season.
The Bobcats would tack on one more goal in the first half with less than a minute to go as Allie Curry lobbed a shot from the right side over junior goalkeeper Klaire Adee to give Ohio a 3-1 lead.
That score would hold, as neither team added a goal in the second half despite 15 shots and six corner kicks combined between the two squads.
Despite giving up three goals, Adee posted six total saves in the contest as well in net for Akron.
Smith took three total shots on the afternoon, two on goal, while Werth, sophomore Sarah Sivic, and freshman Loreana Lonigro each took two, one each on goal.
The Zips continue conference play on Sunday as they play at crosstown rival Kent State, slated to kick off at noon.
