Track and Field Places Seven Student-Athletes on Academic All-MAC Teams

Complete Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Release
CLEVELAND – Seven University of Akron track and field student-athletes were named the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC, the league office announced on Tuesday.
In all, the Zips had six student-athletes named Academic All-MAC, with a seventh named Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention.
The men's squad placed five student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC list, led by USTFCCCA All-America First Team honoree Alex McCune. McCune, a junior majoring in geology (3.359 GPA), finished sixth in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a school-record breaking total of 7,806 points. He was the decathlon silver medalist at the MAC Outdoor Championships, in addition to placing fifth in the javelin.
Kyle Cochrun, a junior English major with a 3.856 GPA, earned Academic All-MAC honors after winning the 5,000-meter title at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Daryl Baptiste was also named Academic All-MAC. The senior sports science major (3.925 GPA) finished fifth in the triple jump at the conference championship meet, in addition to winning the long jump at the All-Ohio Championships.
Bryan Jones added an Academic All-MAC honor to his list of awards this season after earning USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades in the decathlon. He placed 22nd at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after a third-place performance at the MAC Outdoor Championships. He has a 3.569 GPA in middle level education.
Rounding out the men's honorees was Jake Hiltner, who earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention designation. He finished fourth at the MAC Outdoor Championships and advanced to the NCAA East Regionals in the 800-meters. He has a 3.516 GPA while majoring in integrated social studies.
On the women's side, Claire Lucas and Ariane Beaumont-Courteau earned Academic All-MAC honors. Lucas, a junior with a 4.000 GPA in corporate finance, finished 18th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which earned him USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention designation.
Beaumont-Courteau, a senior majoring in dietetics (3.995 GPA), added Academic All-MAC honors to her list of awards this season that includes Second-Team All-MAC in the pole vault and Akron's recipient of the MAC Medal of Excellence. The Medal of Excellence is a newly created award, which will be presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each of the 12 conference member institutions.
