AKRON, Ohio – Three members of The University of Akron women's soccer team were named to the 2013 Mid-American Preseason All-Conference teams by College Sports Madness.
Seniors Kelly DeNiro and Amber Kern were named first team, while sophomore Katie George notched a second team nod.
This past season, DeNiro was second on the Zips roster in goals with five and in assists with four, good for a total of 14 points. DeNiro, a midfielder, started all 18 of UA's matches and was named to the second team All-MAC.
Kern and George both played and started in all 18 of the Zips matches, predominantly on defense. While also being a force on defense, Kern also chipped in on offense as she netted one goal and dished out a pair of assists. George also registered one assist in the 2012 season.
The Zips will have one exhibition match at Duquesne on August 17 before heading to Purdue for the Boilermaker Cup to open the 2013 campaign on August 23.
Akron women's soccer will have eight home matches in the 2013 season, beginning with Boston University on Sept. 8 at noon in FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
Women's soccer season tickets are just $40 for general admission, and are available for a $20 add-on for men's soccer season ticketholders. Also, discounted tickets are available for faculty and staff at $32 and alumni at $25. Family plan add-ons can be made for $40.
