Barber, Beaumont-Courteau To Compete In Canadian Track & Field Championships

AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron pole vaulters Shawn Barber and Ariane Beaumont-Courteau will compete in the finals of the Canadian Track & Field Championships this weekend in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Barber, who placed third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, broke the all-time Canadian pole vault record with a jump of 18-08.75 at the Texas Relays last March and enters the competition as the top seed. The Zips freshman phenom will jump Saturday at 10 a.m. With a top-three finish, he will guarantee his spot at the World Championships.
Beaumont-Courteau, who finished runner-up at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, will get her turn in the women's competition as the No. 7 seed Sunday at Noon.
It will be the start of a busy summer for Barber, who is also scheduled to compete in Russia, Columbia and possibly France in the next few months.
