COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2012-13 season came to an end on Saturday as University of Akron junior Charlie Bull posted his tenth top-25 finish of the season, this time at the 2013 NCAA Columbus Regional at the par 71, 7,286-yard Scarlet Course.
Bull posted a final-round 1-over 72 to finish in a tie for 25th place with a three-day score of 9-over 222. New Mexico, Auburn, South Carolina, UNLV and Texas Tech, as well as Virginia's Denny McCarthy, advanced from the regional to the NCAA Championships in Atlanta.
"Charlie's play to the greens was superior this week," men's golf head coach David Trainor said. "There were some tough hole locations and the greens we fast, making it difficult to putt. Overall, I'm very proud of Charlie and his play, both this weekend and all season. He was the model of consistency from top to bottom. This experience is just another step forward for Charlie and the Zips men's golf program as a whole."
The round started off well for Bull after teeing off from the tenth tee. He birdied No. 11 and No. 15 to open the day at 2-under. However, he would bogey No. 16 and No. 18 to make the turn at even par.
Bull started the front nine with bogeys on No. 1 and No. 3 to drop to 2-over before posting his third birdie of the day, this time on No. 6 He would end up closing the round bogey-birdie-par for his round of 71.
"I played solid golf this week on a course that was very tough," Bull said. "It was a great experience to play in the NCAA Regionals for a second-consecutive season. It is always great to play against a quality field on a tough course."
The tournament wraps up the season for Bull and the Zips. Both will return to action this coming fall.
"I had a great season and am already looking forward to getting back on the course this fall," Bull said. "We have a young team, but an experienced team and I think next year is going to be a special one for the Zips and I."
