Vernon Leads Men's Golf on Saturday at the Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of Akron men's golf team climbed one spot to 13th place on Saturday thanks to solid rounds by Carr Vernon, Charlie Bull and Cameron Simmons during the second round of the 44th Annual Furman Intercollegiate.
Vernon posted his first collegiate round under par, firing a 2-under 70 to lead the way for the Zips. His round helped him climb 28 spots into a tie for 20th place with a 36-hole total of 145 (+1). Vernon has done most of his damage on the par-5 holes, shooting 6-under so far with an average score of 4.25.
As a team, the Zips carded a round of 2-over 290 to finish the day just two strokes outside the top 10 and 10 strokes outside the top five with a two-day tally of 562 (+16). No. 51 Virginia Tech maintained its day-one lead and leads North Florida by four strokes with a score of 566 (-10).
Bull, Akron's low scorer on day one, posted an even-par 72 and is tied with Vernon for 20th place with a total of 145 (+1). Bull's 28 pars through 36 holes are currently tied for second among all players.
Cameron Simmons followed his open-round 77 (+5) with a second-round 73 to climb 21 spots into a tie for 51st place. He enters the final round with a score of 150 (+6).
Ryan Harris moved up 10 spots on the day after posting a round of 3-over 75. He is currently tied for 87th place with a two-day score of 154 (+10).
Louis Birchall rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 107th place (158, +14), after recording a round of 81 (+9).
The final round is slated to begin on Sunday with tee times from the first and tenth tees starting at 8 a.m. ET. Fans can follow all the action via Golfstat Live Scoring.
