AIKEN, S.C. – The University of Akron men's golf team, led by Charlie Bull's top-15 finish, finished the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in a tie for 12th place on Tuesday.
Bull posted a round of even-par 70 to finish tied for 15th place with a three-round score of 217 (+7). His round helped him climb 15 spots after opening the day in a tie for 30th place.
As a team, the Zips shot a final-round 307 (+27) and concluded the week with a 54-hole score of 900 (+60) to share 12th place with Furman. No. 55 Augusta State used a tournament-best round of 2-over 282 on Tuesday to leapfrog No. 35 South Carolina to take the team title (856, +16).
Three Zips posted rounds of 9-over 79, including Louis Birchall, Cameron Simmons and Ryan Harris. Birchall closed the event in a tie for 45th place (226, +16), while Simmons (232, +22) and Harris (233, +33) finished tied for 70th and tied for 74th respectively.
Carr Vernon wrapped up play in a tie for 65th place with a score of 231 (+21) after posting a final-round 80 (+10) on Tuesday.
The Zips return to action on Friday, March 22, when they travel back to South Carolina for the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
