MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Akron men's golf team, led by freshman Louis Birchall, finished the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in 14th place on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
Birchall concluded the day in a tied for 44th place with a three-round score of 226 (+10) after posting a score of 2-over 74 during the final round.
As a team, the Zips posted a two-day score of 920 (+56), including rounds of 306, 315 and 299. Auburn led wire-to-wire to win the event by four strokes with a score of 3-under 861.
Charlie Bull and Carr Vernon also posted rounds of 2-over 74 on the day to finish tied for 50th and tied for 74th, respectively. Bull finished with a tally of 228 (+12) while Vernon posted a three-round score of 238 (+22).
Ryan Harris posted a round 5-over 77 to finish tied for 72nd place (237, +21) while Cameron Simmons' round of 80 (+8) moved him into a tie for 74th place with Vernon (238, +22).
The Zips return to action on March 11 when they travel to Aiken, S.C., for the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
