Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at MAC Match Play Event

DADE CITY, Fla. – The University of Akron men's golf team defeated Ohio 4-2 on Tuesday to conclude the 2013 Mid-American Conference Match Play in seventh place at the par-72, 7,153-yard Lake Jovita South Course.
The Zips, playing as the No. 2 seed, defeated the eighth-seeded Bobcats thanks to wins by Charlie Bull, Carr Vernon, Ryan Harris and Harry Whittle.
Bull and Vernon concluded the event with perfect 3-0 records. Bull posted a 4 and 3 win over OU's Byron Firestone while Carr won 2 UP over Mike Engelman.
Whittle and Harris posted their first wins of the event, with Whittle winning 4 and 3 and Harris posting a 3 and 1 victory. Whittle closed the week 1-1-1 while Harris was 1-2.
Cameron Simmons fell 4 and 3 to Ohio's Michael Lamping while Louis Birchall was defeated 6 and 5 by Connor Coldwater.
The Zips return to action on February 18 when they travel to Mobile, Ala., for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
