CLEVELAND – Sophomore Hannah Raspopovich has been named Mid-American Conference swimmer of the week for her strong performance this past weekend in the Zippy Invitational.
Raspopovich had record-setting performances for the Zips in individual and team relay events at the Zippy Invitational. On Friday, Raspopovich registered a first place time of 22.79, which set both a Zippy Invitational record and a personal best time. Her time of 22.79 also has the distinction of topping the NCAA Division I "B" standard time of 22.99.
On Saturday in the second day of the Zippy, Raspopovich was a crucial member of the program record breaking 200 medley relay team at a time of 1:42.32. The previous record of 1:42.80 was set in the 2009-10 season. The 200 medley relay time on Saturday is also a Zippy Invitational record.
A native of Crown Point, Ind., Raspopovich wrapped up the Zippy Invite on Sunday with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle at a time of 50.72, a personal best.
Akron swimming and diving completed the Zippy Invitational in second place this year, the highest finish in the home competition since a third place standing in 2009. The Zips will break for competition until 2014, when Youngstown State comes to the Ocasek Natatorium on Jan. 17.
