Blue Evens the Series with a 7-5 Win over Gold on Saturday

AKRON, Ohio – Blue evened the University of Akron baseball team's Fall World Series at one game a piece with a 7-5 rain-shortened win over Gold on Saturday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.
The Blue squad got on the board first with a pair of runs plated in the top of the third inning, when sophomores Anthony Bova and Billy Salem drew bases loaded walks to put Blue up, 2-0.
The game would remain at the 2-0 Blue lead until the fifth inning. Gold cut the Blue lead in half on an RBI single by Dom Iero. The Blue offense negated Gold's fifth inning run with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Senior James Sheltrown drew a bases loaded walk, while junior shortstop Matt Rembielak lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in Salem from third. Blue now had a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
Gold got back one run in the bottom half of the six on an RBI double by Brian Lees to score Gerrad Rohan from first base.
Both teams put up three run rallies in the seventh inning to bring the game to its final score of 7-5.
Masashi Sakamoto made the start at pitcher for the Blue squad, and earned the win. Sakamoto tossed 6.0 innings with two runs allowed and four strikeouts.
On the Gold side, Josh Davis was handed the loss. Davis pitched 5.0 innings with three strikeouts.
Overall, the Blue team picked up eight base hits and drew nine walks. Freshman Mason Mamarella registered the most hits on the squad with two, while both Bova and Salem earned three free passes.
Game three of the Fall World Series is slated for 3 p.m., on Monday at Lee R. Jackson Field.
