Akron Track and Field to Send Five to USA Junior Outdoor Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team will send five student-athletes to the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
The three-day event, scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will include the top junior track and field athletes in the nation. Fans will be treated to a glimpse of the future of USA Track & Field as the best high school standouts and the most promising college freshmen face off at one of America's premier venues.
Heading to the event for the Zips will be Alexis Cooks, John Dahlstrand, Bryce Lemon, Alex McCune and Skyler Willis.
On Friday, Dahlstrand and McCune will compete in the first five events of the men's decathlon beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET. Cooks will compete in the women's discuss, set to begin at 5:45 p.m., while Lemon will take part in the javelin event at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Dahlstrand and McCune will conclude the men's decathlon while Willis will begin her competition in the women's heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. Cooks will compete for the second-straight day, this time in the women's hammer throw (5:30 p.m.).
Willis (heptathlon) and Cooks (shot put) will conclude the competition on Sunday. The heptathlon will begin at 1 p.m. while the shot put will take place beginning at 3 p.m.
