Men's Golf in Fifth Place at MAC Championship

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The Akron men's golf team concluded day one of the Mid-American Conference Championship event in fifth place following the first 36 holes on Friday at the par-72, 6,978-yard Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course.
Akron carded rounds of 303 and 304 to finish with a two-round tally of 605 (+29). Kent State held the lead with a 12-under 564.
Charlie Bull had a solid day on the course, grabbing a share of third place with a 1-under 143. He finished round one with a 2-under 70 to grab a share of the lead and followed it up with a round of 1-over 73.
Ryan Mason and Cameron Simmons each finished in a group at 9-over 153, good for a tie for 21st place. Mason posted rounds of 78 (+6) and 75 (+3) while Simmons finished with scores of 77 (+5) and 76 (+4).
Scott Landreth carded back-to-back rounds of 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 32nd place at 12-over 156 while Tim Lew is tied for 43rd with a score of 161 (+17).
With Akron and Kent State facing off this weekend, the championship event will serve as the lone PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge opportunity, with the higher-finishing squad earning a point for their respective school. Following Akron's sweep of the Golden Flashes in softball earlier in the day, Kent State holds a 6.0-5.0 advantage.
Saturday's tee times will begin at 9 a.m. from the first tee box. Fans can catch all of the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
