Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Memphis Intercollegiate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Akron men's golf team carded a final-round 305 (+17) to finish in fifth place on Tuesday at the 2012 Memphis Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,334-yard Colonial Country Club South Course.
The Zips finished with a three-round total of 904 (+40), finishing ahead of one top-50 and five top-100 teams in the latest Golfstat rankings (No. 34 UAB, No. 67 Louisiana Tech, No. 69 Mississippi State, No. 94 South Alabama, No. 98 Arkansas-Little Rock). Kennesaw State, the 41st-ranked team in the nation, won the event with a two-day score of 892 (+28).
Four Akron players finished in the top-25, led by senior Ryan Mason. Mason finished in a tie for seventh (222, +6) after posting a final-round 78 (+6).
Charlie Bull and Cameron Simmons closed out the even in a tie for 18th place with identical scores of 11-over 227. Bull closed out the day with a round of 74 (+2) while Simmons returned to the clubhouse following a round of 5-over 77.
Scott Landreth fired a round of 76 (+4) to finish in a group at 12-over 228, good for a tie for 23rd place.
Tim Lew finished the week in 68th place (251, +35) following a final-round 82 (+10).
The Zips will conclude the regular season on April 21 when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Invitational.
