Akron Tabbed Fifth in MAC East in Preseason Poll

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron baseball team has been chosen to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference East Division, according to the preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday by the conference office.

The Zips begin the 2012 season – their first under new coach Rick Rembielak – on Friday at Elon.

Kent State was selected to win the MAC East with 59 points. The Golden Flashes were followed by Miami (48), Bowling Green (36), and Ohio (34). UA garnered 17 points in the poll, with Buffalo being tabbed sixth (16).

Central Michigan is predicted to win the MAC West with 54 points. Toledo (45), Eastern Michigan (43), Northern Illinois (36), Western Michigan (21), and Ball State (11) rounded out the West division selections.

The 2012 MAC Tournament will be held May 23-26 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon Lake, Ohio.
