AKRON, Ohio – Registration is now open for the No. 1-ranked University of Akron men's soccer Winter Camp programs. With limited spaces available, early registration is strongly encouraged. To reserve your spot, visit AkronSoccerCamp.com.
The popular instructional camp offers something for all ages and skill levels and will kick off this January. Campers will receive instruction from the Zips' coaching staff as well as other top college coaches from the area and around country. All sessions will be held in the state-of-the-art University of Akron Stile Athletics Field House, which features a 110-yard long field turf soccer field.
COLLEGE PREP CAMP
The Akron Zips College Prep Camp, which is specifically designed for all boys ages 15 and up, returns for its seventh year this winter, the three-day event will run from January 25-27, 2013.
Participants looking to take their game to the next level will play and train under the spotlight of some the nation's top collegiate coaches. Players will receive expert instruction that targets advanced player development through a combination of trainings, small sided and 11v11 games. Additionally, several Zips' players will be employed by the camp for demonstration purposes.
The cost of the College Prep Camp is $290.
WINTER JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT CAMP
This will mark the fifth year of The Akron Zips Junior Development Camp, which is designed for all boys and girls ages 7-14 and will run from February 22-24, 2013. The weekend long camp features instruction from the UA coaching staff, current players and other top club and college coaches from around the country.
This three-day event is designed for the youth player who wants to learn and develop their technical and tactical abilities' the Akron way, while also playing and training in a fun and stimulating learning environment. The cost of the Winter Junior Development Camp is $205.
WINTER GOALKEEPING CAMP
This winter will mark the fourth year of the Akron Soccer Winter Goalkeeping Camp. This two-day camp, which will be held the weekend of March 1-2, 2013, for all boys and girls ages 8-18 focuses on the technical and tactical skills needed to succeed in one of the most demanding positions in all of team sports.
Akron Soccer is becoming known as a breeding ground for top-flight goalkeepers with two of the top three all-time shutout leaders in NCAA history. The experienced staff - comprised of UA goalkeeping coach Stuart Dobson and some of the nation's premier goalkeeper coaches, will teach campers the key technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of this crucial position. The cost of the Winter Goalkeeping Camp is $220.
AKRON SOCCER
The University of Akron men's soccer program, which owns the highest winning percentage in the nation since 2006, has developed into a perennial contender for the NCAA title since capturing the school's first team national championship in any sport in 2010. While incorporating a style of play that is attractive and attack-oriented, yet effective on bothsides of the ball, the Zips have reached the NCAA final twice in the past three years and advanced to the Round of 16 each season.
Additionally, developing players for the next level has become commonplace for the Akron staff as 15 Zips have gone on to play professionally either in Major League Soccer or overseas since 2006, including No. 1 overall pick Steve Zakuani in 2009, and No. 2 overall picks Darlington Nagbe in 2011 and Darren Mattocks in 2012 - just to name a few. Nagbe was part of a draft class that set MLS draft day records for most players drafted from a single school in the first round (5) and overall (8).
