AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron swimming and diving team continues its season Saturday with a dual meet at Marshall. The meet begins at 2 p.m. at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
Akron (2-4) is looking to rebound from a narrow loss to Oakland last weekend. The Zips hung tough with the Grizzlies - who were ranked no. 7 in the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Pool - and lost by just 10 points, 155-145. Kelsea Cross and Kelsey Ferrante led Akron against OU, taking first and second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke. UA also took the top two spots in 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle as well. Taylor Hart and Jessica Ickes claimed first and second in the 50 free and Meg Finnerty and Ickes were the top placers in the 100 free. The Akron diving duo of Carla McNamara and Leeanna Hoover once again earned first and second in both diving events. McNamara won the 1-meter and Hoover took top honors in the 3-meter.
Marshall (7-3) is competing for the first time since Dec. 3 when it split a tri-meet with Western Kentucky and Fairmont State. The Thundering Herd is led by the trio of Kacey Preun, Madison Lawhorn, and Sarah Kay who have a comined total of 33 wins this season.
The Zips return to Mid-American Conference Action next Saturday when they swim at Eastern Michigan.
