Spartan Invitational at Michigan State Up Next for Tennis

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron tennis team continues the fall component of its schedule this weekend when it travels to East Lansing, Mich., to participate in the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. ET on Friday and Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Friday's action will be held at both the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts and the Fee Tennis Courts located on the east side of campus. Due to the MSU football game, Saturday's competition is slated to be contested at both Mason High School and East Lansing High School. On Sunday, the invitational returns to the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Along with Akron and host school Michigan State, teams competing are IPFW, Louisville, Marquette, Michigan, Purdue and UIC. The event consists of two draws each for singles and doubles.

The Akron pairs of Zara Harutyunyan and Prang Pantusart, and identical twins Angelina Jogasuria and Angelika Jogasuria will represent the Zips in flight A doubles; while Natalia Kuvakina and Ksenia Berestetska will compete for UA in flight B.
On the singles courts, Angelika Jogasuria, Harutyunyan and Pantusart will compete in the flight A bracket and Angelina Jogasuria in flight B. Harutyunyan boasts a preseason ranking of 118th by the ITA.
At last year's Spartan Invitational, Harutyunyan was crowned champion of flight A singles and teamed with Angelina Jogasuria to take the title of flight A doubles.
Akron began its fall schedule last weekend at the Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Invitational at Ohio State – a unique three-day event played on clay courts. Harutyunyan and Pantusart won the doubles main draw and Harutyunyan was a finalist in the singles main draw.
Akron is the reigning Mid-American Conference champion, claiming its first-ever league title in May.
