Long Jumpers Shine at LSU Alumni Gold Saturday

AKRON, Ohio - Tyshaun Peoples and Collister Fahie each cleared 25 feet in the long jump and KC LaCross threatened to break a school record Saturday afternoon to lead a handful of Zips competing at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La.
Fahie, who went 25-11.50 at the Texas Relays earlier this month, recorded a mark of 25-09.25 to place third in the long jump invitational while Peoples topped 25 feet for the first time, setting a personal record of 25-02.00 to win the open long jump. With his winning mark, Peoples shattered his previous high of 24-04.25, set in 2009, and recorded the 14th-best jump in the nation. Adding to his big day, Peoples also finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.96, which was a season best and the 31st-fastest time nationally.
KC LaCross also shared the spotlight Saturday with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. LaCross ran 51.95, which threatened Mike Meditz's all-time mark of 51.51 set in 2007, to post a new personal record. It is the 37th-fastest time recorded in the country this season.
Rounding out Saturday's action in Baton Rouge, Collister Fahie finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 48-02.00 and the Zips' 4x100 relay team of Marcus Ferguson, Peoples, Fahie and Dominique Watson placed ninth with a time of 41 flat.
Two other groups of Zips athletes were in action Saturday with contingents competing at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif., and at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Check back to GoZips.com for details.
