Men's Golf Faces Top Competition at Illinois Spring Classic

The University of Akron men's golf team will face its toughest event of the season this weekend as it travels to Urbana, Ill., for the Illini Spring Classic on April 16-17 at the par-72, 7,018-yard Stone Creek Golf Club.
The 13-team field includes nine of the 11 programs from the Big Ten and seven teams in the latest Golfstat Top-100. Playing in this year's event will be: Creighton, No. 13 Illinois, Illinois State, No. 35 Indiana, No. 40 Michigan, Michigan State, No. 71 Minnesota, No. 58 Northwestern, No. 25 Ohio State, No. 73 Penn State, Wisconsin and Xavier. The Zips enter the weekend ranked 107th by Golfstat.
The Zips enter the final event of the regular season fresh off a third-place finish at the UK Bluegrass Invitational on April 10. UA finished with a three-round score of 26-over 878 after battling rain delays, closing out the weekend 10-strokes behind tournament winner and tenth-ranked Auburn.
Freshman Charlie Bull had the best performance of his young Akron career, finishing in a three-way tie for second place with a score of 2-over 215. He closed out the final day with a round of 4-over 75 after carding a round of 1-under 70 earlier in the day to wrap-up the postponed second round.
Play will begin on Saturday with the first round scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. ET, followed immediately by the second round. The final round will commence on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. ET, with all three rounds set for a shotgun start. Golfstat live scoring will be available at GoZips.com.
