Dates Set for Akron Track & Field Summer Camp

Track and field athletes looking to hone their skills will have
the opportunity to do so under the guidance of the Zips' coaching
staff this summer from June 14-16 at annual The University of Akron
Track and Field Camps.

Event Outline
• Pole Vault: Instructed by UA head
coach and pole vault coach Dennis
Mitchell, who has coached 64 All-American honors during his
career. Mitchell is an annual instructor at the USATF Emerging
Elite Coaches Clinic at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula
Vista, Calif.
• Throws: Instructed by UA throws coach Brian
Forrester, who has guided athletes to 18 individual MAC
Championships, eight All-American honors, five MAC All-Time and
Championship meet records and an NCAA National Championship.
• Mid-Distance/Distance: Instructed by UA
men's distance and cross country coach Lee
LaBadie. LaBadie has coaches athletes to two NCAA National
Championships, three Olympic games and five school records.
• Sprints: Instructed by UA sprints coach LeShaunte
Edwards, a three-time All-American at UA in the 60m and 200m
and the owner of four school records. Ewards has guided 15 athletes
to individual MAC Championships and one to an NCAA National
Championship appearance.
• Jumps: Instructed by Tomasz
Smialek, a two-time All-American at UA in the high jump and
current Akron jumps coach. Smialek has guided athletes to 16
individual MAC Championships and two All-American honors.
• Hurdles: Instructed by Dominika
Stokowska, a two-time NCAA National Championship participant in
the 400m hurdles and current UA hurdles/jumps coach.
Objective
• Our main goal is to provide the camper with a sound
base of knowledge regarding event specific techniques which will
assist them in achieving their future goals.
Camp
Overview
• Resident campers should pack 3 days of clothing, bathing
products and bathing suit.
• All participants should bring training shoes as well as
event-specific footwear.
• Vaulters should bring their poles. Storage for poles will
be available for commuters as well.
• All participants should bring a water bottle.
• All participants will receive a UA track and field
t-shirt.
• A certified athletic trainer will be on staff for all
sessions.
• Resident campers will stay in the dorms on Akron's campus
under camp instructor supervision.
• All applicable meals will be provided.
• Any inappropriate behavior may result in the immediate
dismissal from camp.
