Carr Sets 400 IM Record at MAC Championships

ATHENS, Ohio - Catherine Carr broke the school record in the 400-yard individual medley to highlight action for The University of Akron swimming and diving team at this morning's session of the Mid-American Conference Championships at Ohio University. Three other Zips qualified for the championship finals of their respective events in the session.
Carr highlighted the morning session with her performance in the 400-yard individual medley. Carr's swim of 4:23.03 broke the previous record - set by Andrea Grey in 2003-04 - by more than five seconds and qualified the freshman through to the championship finals of the event Friday night.
Katie Miles produced the fourth-fastest preliminary time in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 54.81 was her fastest of the season and just two-tenths of a second off her own school record in the event.
Rebecca Zimmer qualified for the championship finals of the 200-yard freestyle, and moved into third on the UA record list in the event. Zimmer swam a career-best time of 1:50.14. Meg Finnerty's prelim time of 1:52.27 was the fastest of her career and placed her in the first alternate position.
Kelsea Cross recorded a career-best swim in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in with a time of 55.85 and qualifying for the championship final tonight.
Tonight's finals session will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Ohio University Aquatic Center. The 3-meter diving and the 400-yard medley relay will also be contested at tonight's session.
