Gold Team Evens Fall World Series with 8-3 Win

AKRON, Ohio – The Gold team squared the The University of Akron Baseball Fall World Series at a game apiece on Thursday with an 8-3 victory at Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field.
Matt Rembielak drove in three on a pair of hits to lead the Gold team at the plate. Joey Havrilak added a triple and a double, while also driving in two.
The Gold team struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Rembielak singled in James Sheltrown with a 2-out grounder through the right side. Scott Saylor then scored on interference after being tripped up in a rundown between third and home.
Havrilak's leadoff triple to left center in the third set Gold's third run. Havrilak scored on Sam Watkins RBI-groundout to second one batter later.
Blue pulled back a run in the fourth on Tyler Begun's RBI-single to center. Bryan White – who had walked to begin the inning and moved to second on a sac bunt - scored on the play.
Gold team widened the margin with a Sam Trecaso RBI-single in the fifth. Gold then got to 2-run doubles from both Rembielak and Havrilak in the sixth to build its lead to 8-1.
The Blue team was able to find two runs in the top of the seventh on Devan Ahart's bases loaded walk and Caleb Warnimont's RBI-single.
Tyler Smith pitched two scoreless innings for the Gold team. Scott Foster throwing a no-hit inning of relief for the victorious side to highlight the action on the mound.
The final game for the Akron Baseball Fall World Series is set for Saturday. First pitch is 12:45 p.m. at Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field.
