Registration Open for Akron Men's Soccer Summer Camp
January 30 | Men's Soccer
Youth soccer players of all ages and ability levels will have the opportunity to develop their skills under the guidance of University of Akron head men's soccer coach Caleb Porter, his staff and players from last year's historic NCAA championship season this summer when the Zips host their annual instructional summer camps.
As a direct response to the overwhelming demand experienced a year ago, the UA coaching staff is pleased to present a new format for this year's camp that will feature two sessions of the popular Day Camp (for boys and girls, ages 4-12) as well as two sessions of the highly-regarded Residential and Commuter Camp (boys, 10-18). The additional Residential and Commuter Camp session was added after the single offering sold out more than a month in advance in 2010.
Each session is specifically designed for different levels of play; from an elite player looking to play in college to a young player who is just learning the basics of the game. The Akron coaching staff and current players will personally provide instruction for each Day Camp with other top college coaches joining them for the Residential Camp.
DATES
Day Camp I - June 20-24
Day Camp II - July 25-29
Residential Camp I - July 10-14
Residential Camp II - July 17-21

TRADITION
Akron soccer has a rich tradition, beginning with its
inaugural season in 1955. Over the course of 56 years, the Zips
have seen the program reach unthinkable heights, culminating with
the school's first team national championship in any sport in 2010.
As the No. 1 program in the nation, Akron has advanced to the NCAA
Tournament 25 times - including back-to-back appearances in the
national championship game in 2009 and 2010. In all, Akron has
produced 43 All-America selections, with 11 Zips being named
All-Americans over the last six years alone.
Under the guidance of head coach Caleb Porter, the NCAA's winningest active coach, Akron has experienced one of the most dominating two-year runs the game of college soccer has ever seen. Since 2009, the Zips have been defeated just once during the regular run of play - posting an overall record of 45-2-3 during that stretch - and became the first school to advance to the national championship game in back-to-back seasons since Indiana accomplished the feat in 2003 and 2004.
Additionally, the Zips have produced a Hermann Trophy winner in each of the last two seasons - including Teal Bunbury, who became the first UA player to win the prestigious award in 2009, and 2010 winner Darlington Nagbe - and a finalist each year since 2008. Akron is just the fifth school in the history of the men's player of the year award to record consecutive winners all-time and the first since Virginia in 1995-96.
Moreover, 13 Zips have been selected in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft since 2006, including 12 in the last four seasons alone. History was made this January as Akron soccer became the focal point of the 2011 SuperDraft. In all, seven members of the national champion Zips squad had their names called, including five with the first eight picks. The five first-round selections set an MLS record as did the seven players taken overall.
Well respected by his peers and known for his tactical insight and ability to recognize talent, Porter, who serves as a scout for the U.S. Soccer Academy, was selected to coach at the 2009 MLS Combine and will return for his third year as an assistant coach on the current United States U-18 National team in 2011.
In all, Porter, who was named NSCAA National Coach of the Year in 2009, has guided UA to five Mid-American Conference regular season championships, four consecutive MAC Tournament titles and to the NCAA Tournament each season since 2007. He has been named MAC Coach of the Year in each of the past four seasons.
