Volleyball Preps For Final Tournament Before MAC Play

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron volleyball team will travel to its last tournament this weekend before the start of the 2010 conference season. The Zips will play three matches in the Colgate invitational facing off against tournament host, Cornell and Connecticut.

TEAM NOTES
• The Zips went 2-1 last weekend at the second annual Akron
Invitational. After falling to Appalachian State to open, the Zips
rebounded with an impressive five set win over Indiana State and
sweep of St. Francis (Pa.).
• Akron's five set win over Indiana State was the Zips first contest extending past three sets this season.
• Serving continues to be a pivotal point for UA as the Zips rank fifth in Mid-American Conference dropping 1.59 SA/S. Sophomore Morgan Kuhn leads Akron sitting fourth in the MAC with .59 SA/S.
• UA is out serving its opponents 1.59 SA/S to the competitors 1.03 SA/S.
PLAYER NOTES
• Sophomore Paiton
Twitty not only broke into the top-10 in the league this week
but now leads the MAC in blocks registering 1.21 B/S. Fellow
teammate Alex
Wiederholt is tied for fifth averaging 1.00 B/S.
• Sophomore Chelsea Harvey moved up one to sit fourth in the MAC in digs averaging 4.38 D/S. On the year, Harvey has amassed 127 digs as the starting libero.
• Offensively, junior Courtney Jarvis consistently leads UA in kills amassing a team leading 94 (3.24 K/S), which is seventh in the league.
• Akron has had a consistent lineup since the season began starting the same six in Jarvis, Twitty, Harvey, Kuhn, Alex Cocklin and Jackie Goleman in all nine matches thus far.
