Three Zips Turn In Career Top 5 Performances at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Bjorn Johansson, Felicia Close and Katie Nentwick each posted performances among Akron's all-time top five Thursday afternoon at the 83rd annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Johansson, the reigning MAC Indoor heptathlon champion, placed runner-up in the "B" section pole vault with a personal-record clearance of 17-1. The effort additionally ranks third on the UA all-time performers list.
Also on the Thursday, day two of the women's heptathlon completed with the Zips placing three in the top 11. Close led the way with an eighth-place finish, scoring 4,974 points, while Nentwick placed ninth with 4,965 points. The totals by the two were both personal records, Close by over 700 points, and rank third and fourth, respectively on the UA all-time list. Freshman Brittany Cheese placed 11th with 4.908 points, sixth-best on the UA all-time list.
Close posted personal records in six of the seven events of the heptathlon, including the 100m hurdles (14.17), 200m (25.40), 800m (2:38.85), high jump (5-2.50), long jump (19-2.25) and shot put (35-1.25), Nentwick posted personal records in four of the seven events, including the 100m hurdles (14.99), 800m (2:23.85), high jump (5-2.50) and shot put (35-2)
Also Thursday, junior Valerie Wert placed seventh in the hammer, fifth among the collegians, with a throw of 190-2.
Akron, competing in two events this weekend, will continue at the Texas Relays Friday and Saturday, while the remaining Zips will be in Durham, N.C., for the annual Duke Relays.
