Robinson Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

AKRON, Ohio - Akron senior and swimmer Madelyn Robinson has been acknowledged by the NCAA as a recipient of one of 26 Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics.
With 26 scholarships distributed nationally, Robinson is one of 13 women to receive the $6,000 award and is joined by track and field athlete Shelby Johnson who was one of 13 ethnic minorities rewarded.
"I'm really excited about the great opportunity this award provides me with. The University of Akron and athletics administration have done a great job of extending themselves to make athletes like myself feel appreciated. Whether it's the work our marketing and promotions team or the facilities crew in providing us with a brand new locker room," states Robinson. She continues, adding, "I'm extremely appreciative of Anne Jorgensen and the entire Academic Support staff for going out of their way to assist me academically and show genuine care. They told me about this award, asked me about my graduate school applications and truly care. They understand the student-athlete aspect of athletics."
Robinson, an exemplary student-athlete at the university, boasts 3.97 GPA in exercise science and is an active member of Akron's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving in the capacity of Vice President. Additionally, Robinson helps spearhead community relation efforts for the school and her team, including the Zips swimming and diving team's upcoming participation in a Relay for Life event.
The $6,000 award can be applied to a postgraduate educational studies at Robinson's desired institution. The senior is currently awaiting admissions news from three major academic institutions to pursue graduate studies in Sport Administration. Robinson applied to the top two schools in her desired field in Ohio University and the University of Massachusetts respectively as well as Temple University.
About the Award:
The goal of the enhancement postgraduate scholarship is to increase the pool of and opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics through postgraduate scholarships.
The Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics programs were developed by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.
The NCAA awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. The applicant must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or other program that will help the applicant obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administrator, coach, athletic trainer or other career that provides a direct service to intercollegiate athletics.
