Men's Golf Moves Up Six Spots At Mobile Bay

Mobile, Ala. - Paced by sophomore Ryan Mason The University of Akron men's golf moved up six spots to tenth place Monday at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Carding a 309 during round one, UA shot a 1-over 289 during round two to make the leap.
"Today was a huge comeback for us," said head coach Nick Goetze. "Ryan turned things around in a big way and his round paved the way for our team's 20 shot improvement. Moving into the middle of the pack will certainly give us a chance to close out a solid event in tomorrow's final round."
After shooting a 86 on the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossing Golf Course during round one, Mason bettered his mark by 18 strokes during round two carding a career-low 68 holding a 154 heading into round three.
Junior Lucas Murray leads the Zips overall in the event after carding 36-holes of 74-71 (145) to move into a tie for 12th place of the 102-player field. Sophomore Scott Landreth follows Murray with a 74-75 (149) tied for 37th.
Freshman Cameron Simmons and junior Doug Underwood round out Akron's scorecard as they carded a 78-76 (154) and 83-75 (158) respectively.
Individually, senior Jacob Patte is competing for the Zips posting two rounds of 75 (150) for a 46th place tie heading into Tuesday play.
Mississippi moved into first of the 18-team field shooting a 291-285 (576) while Middle Tennessee State Kent Bulle remains the leader of the individual field as he carded a 5-under, 67-72 (139).
Other teams participating include Arkansas State, Belmont, Illinois State, Iowa State, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi State, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Toledo and Vanderbilt.
