Gold Team Takes 7-6 Victory in Game One of Fall World Series

AKRON, Ohio -The University of Akron baseball Blue and Gold Fall World Series got underway Monday afternoon with the Gold team pulling out a 7-6 game one victory.
The Gold team grabbed a 7-5 lead in the top of the sixth when James Sheltrown singled in Tyler Begun and Lawrence Penn, giving Sheltrow three hits and four RBIs in the contest. Begun had led off the inning with a triple and Penn was hit by a pitch.
The Gold team then held off a seventh-inning Blue team rally to hold on for a 1-0 series lead. All games of the series are seven-inning contests.
Ivory Alexander homered to lead off the top of the second inning for the Gold team, while Sam Trecaso and Jared Turocy each recorded a double in the game. Brandon Winter, Brendon Liberti, and Jason Corzine all had multi-hit efforts for the Blue team.
Myles McVeigh picked up the win on the mound for the Gold team, pitching a scoreless sixth inning. Kevin Kumazec pitched a perfect top of the seventh for the Blue team, striking out the side. Andrew Brown (Gold) and Ben Danzinger (Blue) each went five innings as the game's starters.
The Blue and Gold Fall World Series will continue with game two tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field. Wednesday is on off day or a make-up day in case of a rain out, with games three and four scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 2:15 p.m. and the game five scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
