Zips Prep For Second Tour Of East Division

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron volleyball team will start their second tour of the east division this weekend heading out on the road to face Miami (OH) and Bowling Green. The match against the RedHawks is slated for 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's contest against BGSU is set for 3:00 p.m.

• The contest against BGSU also marks the final volleyball match in Anderson Arena. Due to the occasion, the game will be broadcast on the local television channel, BCSN. The broadcast can be viewed on the internet for a fee through America One which is available here.
TEAM NOTES
• The Zips will start to work their way around the east division for the second time this weekend facing Miami (OH) and Bowling Green on the road. Akron and Ohio are tied for first place in the east heading into the second tour of the division.
• UA is fifth in the conference in digs averaging 15.50 per set. On an individual level, sophomore Chelsea Harvey leads UA in the backcourt sitting sixth in the MAC averaging 4.53 digs per set.
• Akron is also fifth league wide in hitting percentage striking a .221 through 40 MAC sets.
• UA is out serving its conference opponents 1.33 SA/S to 1.15 SA/S and out blocking 1.95 B/S to 1.56 B/S.
• Posting a 14-18 overall record in 2009 and 5-11 conference record the last two seasons, Akron can tie the overall mark and surpass the conference record this weekend.
PLAYER NOTES
• Solid throughout the season on both sides of the ball, junior Courtney Jarvis has been the team leader in kills all year with 248 (3.18 K/S) and is second on the team in digs with 243 (3.12 D/S).
• Junior Tina Dimitrijevs is third in the league in hitting percentage striking a .346 in conference play.
• Serving continues to be a pivotal point for the Zips with sophomore Morgan Kuhn leading the way. Ranked third in the conference with .39 SA/S, the mark also ranks 49th on the national level.
• After dealing with a knee injury, redshirt freshman Ari Mewhorter has come back strong to start at the outside hitter position. Last weekend against Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan, Mewhorter registered 17 kills, 17 digs and seven blocks, including two solo.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• The Zips have been honored with the MAC East Division Player of Week five times. Jarvis received the offensive nod twice in a row while Harvey has been given the division's defensive honor three times.
