TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 2009 AT&T U.S. National Diving Championships are underway at the Morcom Aquatics Center on the Florida State University campus and University of Akron graduate and standout diver Katie Carter is on hand for competition! The meet began today, Tuesday, August 11th and will conclude on Sunday, August 16th with Carter scheduled to compete in both diving events (1-meter and 3-meter). Carter will be competing on the Akron Rippers squad, led by UA diving coach Chris Medvedeff.
"One of
Katie's goals at Akron was to compete on a National level so i'm
excited and happy she's fulfilling that dream. Katie accomplished a
lot at the University of Akron but diving at the US Senior
Nationals is pretty outstanding," noted Medvedeff.
Carter ended her career with the Zips as one of the most decorated divers in recent history. Carter was named MAC Diver of the Year following her performance at the conference championships which saw her break diving records from both boards while sweeping each event to become MAC Champion from both springboards. Furthermore, Carter was the lone Akron diver named to the 2009 All-MAC first team was named to the Academic All-MAC squad for the third consecutive season.
