Zippy Invitational Underway, Live Stats Available

AKRON, Ohio- The University of Akron swimming and diving team prepares to host the 2009 Zippy Invitational in Ocasek Natatorium this weekend. The event which begins on Friday, December 4th and runs through Sunday, December 6th, highlights 23 teams from 13 universities and six conferences.
Along with host Akron, the Mid-American Conference will be represented by The University of Buffalo men's and women's programs while the women's team from Ohio University round out teams from the MAC.
The Atlantic-10 Conference is sending three schools to compete, including the men's and women's teams from Duquesne, St. Bonaventure and Xavier.
The Horizon League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Missouri Valley Conference each have one representative in the Invitational this year. The Cleveland State University men's and women's diving teams represent the Horizon League, Niagara University men's and women's programs represent the MAAC while the MVC is represented by the Illinois State University women's team.
The Zippy Invitational also welcomes four schools from Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The PSAC representatives are the men and women's teams from Bloomsburg University, Clarion University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Shippensburg University.
Ohio won the event on the Invite on the women's side as Illinois State took second as the Zips finished third. Buffalo captured the event for the men while Clarion and St. Bonaventure finished second and third.

The first session of preliminaries will begin on Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the Ocasek Natatorium followed by diving at approximately 1:00 p.m. Friday's finals will begin at 7:00 p.m. For a complete schedule please visit the link posted above.
