• Akron posted its second-straight win and has been
victorious in six of its last seven contests.
• Akron improved to 68-9 at home under six-year head coach Keith
Dambrot and has won 59 of its last 67 games at Rhodes
Arena.
• Akron evened the all-time series with UNC Greensboro at 2-2
and topped the Spartans for the second-consecutive season (75-53
win at UNCG's Fleming Gym on Dec. 31, 2008).
• Akron entered the game averaging 7.5 3-point field goals
made per game and shot a season-high 9-for-18 (50 percent) versus
the Spartans. It marked the fifth time this season the Zips have
made eight or more 3-pointers. The team's season-high is 10 makes
(versus Niagara on Nov. 29).
• The Zips shot a season-high 58.9 percent from the field
(33-for-56), the highest shooting percentage recorded by Akron
since posting a 55.3 percent performance (21-for-38) against
Buffalo in the MAC Tournament championship game on March 14,
2009.
Player Notes:
• Senior forward Chris McKnight posted a
career-high six assists against UNCG, topping his previous high of
five dimes against Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 29, 2008).
• Sophomore guard Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens
led all scorers in the game with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting from
the field in just 16 minutes as a reserve. It is the third time
this season Hitchens has been the Zips' leading scorer and first
time since posting 17 points against Drake (Nov. 21).
• Freshman center Zeke Marshall has recorded
at least one blocked shot in all nine games this season, entering
tonight's game as the MAC leader with a 2.5 blocks-per-game
average. He had one rejection tonight.
