Nanchoff Named to College Soccer News Team of the Week
October 05 | Men's Soccer
AKRON, Ohio -
For the third straight week, sophomore Michael Nanchoff has
received national acclaim as the midfielder was named to the
National Team of the Week by College Soccer News, Monday.
Nanchoff assisted three goals in two games last week as the No. 1
Zips defeated No. 15 Ohio State and Florida Atlantic by like 3-0
margins while improving to 9-0-0 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in
MAC play. With eight assists in nine games this fall, the native of
North Royalton, Ohio is making a run at the school's single-season
standard of 15, which is shared by Michael Apple (1998) and Allen
Eller (1998).
Nanchoff, who tied a school record with four assists in a game
against Bowling Green earlier this year, has been instrumental to
the Zips' recent offensive surge as he has recorded at least one
point in six straight games and at least one assist in his last
four. As a unit, Akron has out-scored its opponents 20-0 in its
last six contests and has scored three or more goals in its last
four.
Nanchoff was a member of Soccer America's National Team of
the Week the previous two weeks while earning the publication's
National Player of the Week honors on Sept. 22.
With a perfect 9-0-0 record, UA is off to its second-best start
since 1972. The Zips will look to improve on that mark when they
travel to Illinois-Chicago Wednesday for an 8 p.m. (EST)
kickoff.
Nanchoff Earns MAC Recognition as Well
Nanchoff also became the third UA player to earn weekly
honors from the Mid-American Conference Monday. It is the first
time Nanchoff has been named MAC Player of the Week. Goalkeeper David
Meves (Sept. 9) and forward Teal Bunbury (Sept. 14) have
also garnered MAC honors this season.
