October 31 | Women's Volleyball
AKRON, Ohio - Struggling offensively, the University of Akron volleyball team (11-14, 3-8 MAC) was held to a .118 hitting percentage in their three-set loss to the Miami RedHawks (13-10, 8-3 MAC) Friday night at James A. Rhodes Arena.
After falling 25-17 in the first set, once again Miami went up early in the second set taking a 18-9 lead. A determined UA team would put together a 10-1 run to tie the contest for the first time at 19-19, but the RedHawks refused to give their lead up thanks to a kill from MU's Megan Griffin to regain the 20-19 advantage. With Miami up 22-20, the Zips would put themselves back within one off a kill from senior Brionna Patterson (22-21) but another Miami kill kept the lead which was never relinquished in the 25-22 MU win.
In set three it was Akron that scored first taking a quick 2-0 lead, however, the RedHawks would pull away for 16-8 lead with solid offensive performances taking the set 25-16. Miami struck a .312 hitting percentage overall in the contest.
Akron's Patterson and sophomore Tina Dimitrijevs led UA offensviely putting up six kills each. Senior setter Kara Smith added 18 assists while freshman Morgan Kuhn posted nine on the evening.
The Zips will continue action at home Saturday (Oct. 31) when they welcome the Bowling Green Falcons to James A. Rhodes Arena.
