Nagbe Earns National Acclaim Following Career Performance
October 26 | Men's Soccer
AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron sophomore Darlington Nagbe earned a
trio of honors Monday following his seven point-performance at
Michigan last week.
The midfielder from Lakewood, Ohio, enjoyed a banner day in one of
the most impressive victories of the season for the top-ranked
men's soccer team. With three goals and an assist, Nagbe led the
Zips to a 5-1 rout at Michigan last Tuesday. It was the first time
UA has ever defeated the Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
For his accomplishments, Nagbe was named to National Teams of the
Week by both College Soccer News and Top Drawer
Soccer. He also became the fifth UA player to be named
Mid-American Conference Player of the Week this fall, joining Teal
Bunbury (twice), David Meves and Michael
Nanchoff.
Nagbe's seven points for the match was the most recorded by an
Akron player since the 2002 season.
Nagbe scored twice in the opening half - including his first
game-winning goal of the year - then put the finishing touches on
UA's most decisive win in the all-time series with Michigan with a
score in the second half. It is the first time Nagbe has garnered
National Team of the Week honors from either publication.
In all, four Akron players have been named to national teams of the
week by both College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer.
After playing six of their last seven games on the road, the Zips
(15-0) will wrap up the regular season with three games at Lee
Jackson Field starting Wednesday night against Penn State. UA and
PSU will kick off at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickest in advance,
