Men's Soccer to Appear on Big Ten Network
August 06 | Men's Soccer
The highly-anticipated match-up between the University of Akron
men's soccer team and Indiana on Aug. 31 will be broadcast live on
the Big Ten Network, the station announced Wednesday.
The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (EST) and will feature two
of the top soccer programs in the country. Akron, the defending
Mid-American Conference champions finished the '07 campaign ranked
23rd in the final NSCAA/adidas rankings while the Hoosiers, who
claimed the Big Ten's regular-season title it's 11th in 12
years, were ranked 14th.
Adding to the intrigue, third-year UA head coach Caleb
Porter is a former star player and coach at IU and is 0-1 in
his career against his alma mater.
It will be the second regular-season game for Akron, which opens
its '08 campaign against Notre Dame two days earlier, Aug. 29, at 5
p.m. (EST) in Bloomington, Ind.
The Zips return six starters and 12 letterwinners from a squad that
captured the fourth-highest win total in school history with a
15-4-2 overall record last fall. Akron claimed both the MAC
regular-season and tournament titles and were awarded a first-round
bye and the 14th seed in the NCAA Tournament.
UA went 1-1-1 against teams from the Big Ten a year ago,
registering its lone victory in a 3-0 shutout of Penn State at Lee
Jackson Field and is 2-3-2 against the conference under Porter.
