Zakuani Named to Soccer America Team of the Week

For the second time this season, University of Akron sophomore
Steve Zakuani has been named to Soccer America's
National Team of the Week, the publication announced Tuesday.
Zakuani, who was named to Top Drawer Soccer's team of the
week Monday, leads the nation in points (35), points per game
(2.50) and goals (15) after recording his second hat trick in less
than two weeks with three scores in 18 minutes against Wright State
last Wednesday. The forward followed that up by recording the
game-winning score in UA's 2-0 win over Buffalo in a rematch of
last year's MAC Tournament finals Saturday.
Zakuani has recorded at least one goal in all but three games this
season and has scored 12 times in his last eight contests. As a
team, Akron's defense is ranked second nationally with a
goals-against-average of 0.27 while its offense is ranked third
with 34 goals in 14 games.
Zakauni, a Herman Trophy candidate, is a Soccer America
Preseason All-American and was named Top Drawer Soccer's
National Player of the Week earlier this month.
The Zips, who are ranked third in the nation by Soccer
America and fifth in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, will host
No. 21 Michigan Wednesday night at Lee Jackson Field. The game is
schedule to start at 7:30 p.m.
