Women?s Soccer Gets OT Win Over Bonnies

Baranowski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland HS) with 52 seconds
remaining in the first overtime period lifted the University of
Akron women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over St. Bonaventure on
Friday.
Baranowski and sophomore Britni Back (North Olmsted, Ohio/North
Olmsted HS) took on St. Bonaventure (1-1-1) goalkeeper Nicole
Markert 2-on-1 for the game-winning score with 99:08 on the clock.
The goal was the first of Baranowski's collegiate career, while
Back tallied her third assist of the season and career.
The score sat at 1-all for the majority of the contest, with St.
Bonaventure finding the net first at 1:42 and Akron (2-0-1)
countering at 13:05. The Zips' goal came courtesy of Back, who
rebounded a shot that had deflected off the post. Freshman Jordan
Clark (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights HS)
earned the assist on the play, as it was her shot that hit the
pole.
UA had several opportunities late in regulation to take a lead.
Markert stopped a header by freshman Alysia
Virkler (Medina, Ohio/Medina Senior HS) in the 76th minute and
a shot by Back in the 86th minute. Zips freshman Leigh
Cullen (McCandless, Pa./North Allegheny Senior HS) knocked a
ball off the post in the 90th minute as well.
Akron continues its schedule on Sunday at noon when it travels to
Canisius.
