September 28 | Women's Soccer
The University of Akron women's soccer team opens
Mid-American Conference play, and a four-match homestand, on Friday
when it plays host to Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Lee Jackson
Field. The Zips (5-1-2) take on arch-rival Kent State on Sunday at
1 p.m.
Akron suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday by a count of
3-1 at Wyoming. The Zips tied Northern Colorado 2-2 last Friday in
the opening game of their Western road trip.
Sophomore Britni Back (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted
HS) leads the Zips with five goals in seven matches played this
season. Back has 13 points (five goals, three assists) to her
credit. Behind her in the scoring column for the Zips is junior Jessica
Fix (Irwin, Pa./Norwin HS), who has earned seven points (three
goals, one assist). Fix was responsible for both of UA's goals at
Northern Colorado.
Senior goalkeeper Krystin Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) has
defended the Zips' net for the duration of the season, tallying 30
saves and a 0.94 goals-against average in 769 minutes of action.
She also has three shutouts to her credit this season, bringing her
career total in that category to 14.
Buffalo enters the weekend with a 3-4-1 record, and is 3-3-0
all-time versus the Zips. UA won last season's meeting 2-1 in a
game played at Lee Jackson Field.
Akron notched its first-ever victory over Kent State (2-4-1) last
season, earning a 2-0 win at home. The Flashes own a 5-1-0 all-time
recorded versus the Zips, and play at Ohio on Friday before
visiting UA on Sunday.
