NCAA Recognizes Akron Men?s Cross Country
April 26 | Cross Country
AKRON, Ohio The University of Akron men's cross country team was honored today by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in its Division I Academic Performance Program public recognition awards for 2006-07, going to the top 10 percent of schools in individual sports programs through the 2005-06 academic year.
Akron's cross country team, honored last season as well, recorded a perfect score of 1,000 as its Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the third consecutive year. To obtain a perfect score, all members of a team receiving athletic aid must maintain athletic eligibility and be retained by the institution for the following term or graduate.
"Academics are the reason we are here," said Dennis Mitchell, Akron's head coach for cross country and track & field. "We are proud that the men's cross country team has committed themselves to getting it done in the classroom along with doing well in competition. They are a very hard working group of athletes and are a great example to the program."
