Golf Set to Tee Off in Tennessee

- Coming off of a third-place finish last week, the University
of Akron golf team will look to build on its strong performance
when it takes to the links on Monday at the Comfort Inn Belmont
Intercollegiate in Franklin, Tenn.
The Zips moved up six spots this week in the latest GolfStat
rankings to 94th in the country and have posted a record of 191-94
against Division I opponents through the first eight tournaments of
the season (6 Fall, 2 Spring).
Akron will look continue its string of winning the MAC Golfer of
the Week award as
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon,
Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) and
Brad Wright (Cambridge,
Ohio/Cambridge HS) have been honored through the first two
tournaments of the spring.
UA will be battling 11 other schools at the Old Natchez Golf Club,
which plays to a par 71 and covers 6,448 yards.
Last year the host school, Belmont won the event with a 1-over par
score of 853 (286-287-280). Scott Stallings of Tennessee Tech won
in a playoff to take medalist honors with a 7-under 206
(70-68-68).
The entire field will play a double round on Monday and conclude
the tournament with a single round on Tuesday.
